Don’t miss the AFA Houston and Southeast Texas Orchestras in this ground-breaking collaboration. James Tapia from Syracuse University leads the orchestra in performances of Adams’ Tromba Lontana, Saint-Saëns’ Bachanalle from Samson and Delilah and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. After the concert, stay at UH to see the final performance of the Texas Music Festival Orchestra at 7:00 p.m.

AFA’s resident faculty ensembles perform a rich variety of both early and contemporary music at one of Houston’s most important artistic landmarks, the Rothko Chapel. Seating is limited so please arrive early. Featured composers include Crockett, Remson, Jolivet and Ginastera.

AFA’s Showcase Concert is a truly unforgettable experience! Guest conductor Christopher Zimmerman from the Hartt School of Music will lead the Conservatory Orchestra in performances of Bernstein’s Three Dances from On The Town and a special AFA arrangement of Bizet’s Carmen Suite. After that, Warren Sneed and the AFA All-Star Big Band will raise the roof in this only performance of the AFA Jazz Department.

AFA’s annual collaboration with Ben Stevenson’s Houston Ballet Academy is celebrating its tenth year! See thrilling world premiere ballets written by AFA student composers and choreographed and performed by members of Ben Stevenson’s Houston Ballet Academy. The evening will also feature a new commission by AFA and HBA alumni Jude Vaclavik and Andrew Green as well as a special repeat performance of Collapsible Rhythms by AFA Executive Director Michael Remson and Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch.

Richard Robbins and Daniel Poncé as they lead the AFA chorus in a performance of

AFA’s final concert of the season will surely not disappoint! Join conductor Clifton Evans as he leads the AFA Conservatory Orchestra in performances of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet overture and Rachmaninoff’s mysterious The Isle of the Dead. The winners of AFA’s 2007 Concerto Competition will also be featured in performances with the orchestra. Don’t forget to stay at Episcopal High School for our closing day reception immediately after the concert!
