AFA aims to prepare the next generation of musicians and leaders to pursue excellence in every stage of their lives. We believe that music education and performances should be accessible to anyone, so each and every concert AFA presents is free and open to the public. Our commitment is to build new audiences as we cultivate excellent young musicians. AFA facilitates this by performing on a diversity of stages across Houston. Past performance venues include the Wortham Center, The Hobby Center’s Zilkha Hall, Moores Opera House at University of Houston, Diverse Works, Lawndale Arts Center, The Dunham and Mabee Theaters at HBU, HITS theatre, the Julie Rogers Theatre in Beaumont, Discovery Green and numerous area churches and schools.
SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
The AFA Summer Concert Series presents numerous concerts in just five weeks every year. These include orchestra, chamber music, choral and faculty concerts, piano and voice recitals as well as the World Premieres concert in collaboration with Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy. Since 1996, AFA has presented over 240 summer concerts with students and faculty performing over 1,800 works, including 137 premieres of new works by guest composers, students and faculty.
With the launch of Year-Round Programs, AFA now present concerts throughout the year. Houston Girls Chorus, Chamber Music Academy and the Composers Institute present at various times.
